Wrestlers in other sports

It is very important that everyone understands that just by registering in October or even the first part of November that we do not expect you to join the team until you are finished with your present sport that you are in (i.e.…football, fall baseball, soccer etc..). We would like for everyone to register as soon as possible to begin looking at our numbers and begin ordering t-shirts, singlets, hoodies, etc… You are welcome to attend whatever practices you can will still attending the sport you are in and then join us fulltime once you are done.

On the flip side of that – as we near the end of our season and baseball, soccer or any other sport begins to overlap us…you are NOT allowed to miss our practices or our matches to be with those teams. I do not have a problem of you practicing with them on nights that we do not have practice. Our season ends for k-5 wrestlers the 2nd week-end of March (meaning you will be available the 3rd week-end) and for middle school wrestlers it ends the 1st week-end of March (meaning you will be available the 2nd week-end. Also keep in mind that our banquet is presently planned for the Sunday on the 2nd week-end in March.

Age Groups

(5 & 6) (7 & 8) (9 & 10) (11 & 12) (13 & 14) We will also accept 4 year olds provided they are more mature 4 year olds. They only practice 1 day per week. 4 year olds have a separate cost. If possible we would love for any dads that could stay and help with this age group to please do so. For more information go to the Registration Costs tab.

Registration Dates

Important Note: For October, November and December dates, all registrations for Middle School and Elementary School will be held at South Paulding HIGH School.

I WOULD LIKE TO ENCOURAGE AS MANY PEOPLE THAT WOULD LIKE TO DO MAIL IN REGISTRATION TO DO SO. I WILL HAVE A VERY INFORMATIVE PARENTS MEETING AROUND THE END OF NOVEMBER AND WILL SEND OUT LOTS OF INFORMATIVE EMAILS. DO NOT FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE TO COME TO A REGISTRATION SPOT TO ASK QUESTIONS.     Registrations will be held at:

    South Paulding High School's
    • Behind school in front the rear entry doors of the school during Oct and the first week of Nov.
    • Starting Nov 17th registration will be just outside the wrestling room doors in the lower parking lot directly behind the HS. SEE DETAILS BELOW!!!

    October Registrations will be mostly received mailed in registrations. We will begin holding registration every Tuesday and Thursday from Oct 22nd to Dec 3rd at South Paulding High School behind the school. Registration times will be 6:30-7:30 p.m. Click here for directions.

    No registration from Nov 23th - Nov 27th for Thanksgiving but Registration resumes for Dec 3rd and 4th

    • REGISTRATION WILL RUN FROM NOV 4th - DEC 3rd (FOOTBALL & SOCCER Players Still Competing excluded. You need to go ahead and sign up early but let Coach Byers know when you plan to start wrestling)
    • No registration from Nov 23th - Nov 27th for Thanksgiving
    • Registration resumes for Dec 3rd and 4th
    New Georgia Ballfield and South Paulding Middle School Football players: I will try to have someone at your practice locations at least one or twice a week during the later part of October and all of November. We may also try to have a table at the Dugan Fall Festival.

Registration Costs

There are a few separate costs to registering
Team Fee (we offer payment plans, contact Coach Byers):

  • $75 for one wrestler, $50 for 2nd wrestler and $25 for 3rd wrestler. 4th or more … no charge. To receive discounts all wrestlers must be siblings.
  • This price will include their t-shirts. The remaining funds go into the development of the program.
  • THERE ARE NO REFUNDS ONCE YOUR CHILD ENTERS THE FIRST PRACTICE!
  • Registration Fee for 4 year olds is $50. The fee is reduced because they only practice one day a week and normally do not wrestle on week ends.
  • IF YOU ARE STRUGGLING (AS WE ALL ARE) FINANCIALLY, DO NOT SKIP WRESTLING FOR THIS REASON. CALL COACH BYERS TO WORK IT OUT. HE WANTS EVERY CHILD TO GET THE SAME OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP A LOVE FOR WRESTLING AND BE PART OF SOMETHING GREAT!

***South Paulding Tournament Deposit Fee and Parent Expectations: Everyone is required to submit a separate deposit check for $150 for 1 child or a $175 check to cover multiple children (in the same household) to guarantee you work the all the events we are scheduled to work . This check will be held (not deposited) until OUR SEASON HAS ENDED to make sure everyone does their part. We will be hosting 2 events plus working 3 additional events this year. Everyone will be REQUIRED to work them.

  • The first will be the Dixie Nationals on December 28th & 29th
  • The 2nd will be the Spartan Challenge event on February 20th (this includes set-up the night before on Feb 19th)
  • The 3rd will be our Beginners event on Feb 21st
  • The 4th & 5th are the State Tournaments (Our team working this is required by state)
    • Big Kids State on March 5th (location to be determined)
    • Small Kids State on March 6th (location to be determined)
  • We will require help from everyone for the The Spartan Challenge, the Spartan Beginners and the State Tournaments, but will only ask help from those attending the Dixie Duals for that event as it is set up so that if we work that event then all our entries and gate fees are free for that event.
  • These are our fund raisers. They keep our program running, but more than that they are what separates our team from the rest of the state. We are a family unit that works hard and shows the state who South Paulding is! This takes place instead of you having to sell stuff all season. Everyone that works these Tournaments will get their checks back at the banquet. Anyone that does not work (without an acceptable reason -given to Coach Byers)... WILL NOT get their check back and it will be deposited – no exceptions.
  • Should your son quit before the Spartan Challenge then you will forfeit the check and it will be deposited. Please plan to have sitters for small children that week-end. We will need everyone. I understand that many kids may not qualify for the state tournament but I will still need your help at this event. The state withholds 15% from our check we earn for the Spartan Challenge and does not pay us until we have worked the State Tournaments. Workers will not have to pay to get in. So if it happens that your son does not make it to state this year then plan to car pool with others to work the event and support the team or bring your son & family anyway to see what state is like - amazing.

USA card purchase or renewal.

  • Every parent needs to create a log in on the Team Georgia website to renew or purchase a new USA card for the new season. Cards last from Sept 1st to Sept 1.
  • Every wrestler and coach is required to have an up to date USA card. Because we are a USA club and our room is sanctioned and covered by USA insurance then only USA members are allowed to compete. This card works as a secondary insurance to your primary insurance.
  • THIS CARD IS NOT OPTIONAL. IF WE WERE CAUGHT ALLOWING WRESTLERS TO COMPETE WITHOUT A CARD THEN WE CAN LOOSE OUR CHARTER.

TRACKWRESTLING.... Every child has to have a trackwrestling number. The number is a vital part of the state seeding process. Make sure your number from last year still matches your information or go get a number if this is your first year. Go here to follow the process.

We will be located behind the High School on the lower level. You can enter through the back glass doors and then immediately turn right and go down the stairs to the bottom level. Turn right onto the hallway and go down until you see the wrestling room on the right.

Registration Documents

Head Gear & wrestling shoes

Everyone is required to wear both while practicing, live wrestling and in Saturday competitions (no exceptions).

Warm –Ups

While many of the returning team members will have a custom designed black jogging suit with hoodies we are stepping up this year and changing the uniform. This will be the first time we have changed since 2010. We will have information soon for everyone to purchase new ones for the first time or those returning that need new apparel. I would like for the entire team to be the same. Packages for these items will most likely include Sublimated Shorts, shirts, jacket and singlet with an option to add custom headgear, socks and bags. Everyone must be in generally the same look. Anyone that at this time cannot afford to buy warm-ups at this time can wear their own jogging pants and sweat shirt BUT they must be solid black with NO logos or writings…SOLID BLACK. We may have an old singlet to lend (no guarantee of that).

Uniform costs

Information about warm ups cost, singlet cost , where to buy shoes (do not buy shoes before you see us – we have a lot of shoes) & more will be given to you as soon after you register – details are still being worked out. The apparel package will be in the neighborhood of $150.

Important Notes

  • ON COMPETITION DAYS EVERYONE IS REQUIRED TO WEAR A SINGLET (unless they have not arrived yet)
  • SPECIAL SINGLETS MAY BE ALLOWED OUTSIDE OF WHAT IS APPROVED BY THE COACHING STAFF! ABSOLUTLEY NO SINGLET OTHER THAN THAT OF THE SPARTANS ARE TO BE WORN IN ANY FINALS MATCH (1ST-4TH)
  • I REALIZE IT IS A BIG DEAL AT NATIONAL EVENTS TO TRADE SINGLETS WITH OTHER STATES. WE CAN DEVELOP SOME TYPE OF TRADITION LIKE MAYBE IF YOU MAKE THE SEMI FINALS OF A TOURNAMENT YOU CAN WEAR IT THEN...BUT AGAIN ALL FINALS EVENTS AND ALL THRU THE STATE EVENT WE WILL WEAR SPARTAN GEAR ONLY!
